The three state affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America were fortunate to team up with the Connecticut Broadcasters Association (CBA) in a landmark statewide effort to recruit mentors for local youth throughout the month of January. Radio and TV stations across Connecticut broadcasted specially produced public service announcements and aired interviews and news features to encourage residents to become volunteer mentors.

“The members of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association used our ‘power of the airwaves’ to show how an adult mentor can transform the life of a child,” explained Kathy Browne, who serves as First Vice-Chair of CBA, and is a former “Big Sister” herself. “More than 1,000 children across Connecticut are waiting to be matched, and we wanted to find mentors for all of those children. Since January is ‘National Mentoring Month’, what better way for us to begin the New Year than by partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Connecticut affiliates and helping to emphasize their call for mentors?”

In addition to the many radio interviews aired throughout the month, we were fortunate to have the chance to feature one of our Big-Little matches on WTNH’s “Connecticut Styles.” As you’ll see, Little Brother, Devan, stole the show!
